A Study Abroad Program in Tanzania: The Evolution of Social Justice Action Work

This article focuses on the evolution of our study abroad program to Tanzania, including integration three liberal arts disciplines and foundational core that links together areas: social justice activism. More specifically, we explore overall challenge dismantling “us versus them” thinking interactive learning moments allow this process transpire. We narrate how what learned 2008 2010 trips led model action work, which enacted 2012 trip. Our approach work integrates experiential with Dan Butin’s concept “justice learning,” or education interrupts complicates binary thinking. three-fold encompasses teaching where instructors create academic framework facilitate change in students, students observe grass-roots organizations performing “traditional” on-site activities generate perceptions can be changed.
